Golden Scan HPE
The first fixtures couple I've got from abroad! I was searching for Stage Scans, I found Golden Scans HPE and of course, I got them! I still have their brochure from an exhibition in Athens, back on 2000... I don't remember the year exactly. Of course then, the distributor didn't demonstrate them in the exhibition, but at least have brochures in the booth.
These two Golden Scans have been found on a big club in Czech Republic, near the borders with Poland. Their previous owner liked them a lot, but he had to shell them mostly because of their power consumption. Other than that, he loved them. That fact, has been proved when I opened the cover of these scanners! Despite of working in a club and being too old, the fixtures were pretty clear. Actually, they were the first fixtures of that age I've got in such condition. I was really surprised!
The 2-month restoration of the Golden Scan HPE ended successfully and as usual, I took the classic picture for my portfolio!
This light has a great career: manufactured in Italy back on 1996, sold in Germany, worked in Munich, Hamburg, then in Prague and ended up in a big club somewhere between the Czech Republic and Poland. Fragments of its career were mentioned on stickers -and stickers above older stickers- on the back panel, from the pre-owned companies and service offices, making it like an off-road car with stickers from the cities and places on its trunk.
Because I am always so impatient, I wanted to fix fast and work with at least the one of the two, I had to dismantle it completely in CZ and took the most fragile, expensive and rare parts with me in my laptop bag and cabin luggage on the plane, while the rest of the heavy chassis arrived at my door with a courier!
I've downgraded the fixtures light source, in order to be able to work with it at home. I've changed the ballast and an HMI 575 Osram lamb has been installed. The luminosity is more than satisfying for the now and own usage of the fixture. The temperature is lower and most important, the power consumption.
All of its parts have been cleaned and most of them repainted also. I had to deep clean the three PCB boards and replace all the electrolytic capacitors and just for safety, the voltage regulators and rectifier diodes.
The only part I didn't touch yet is the front sliding cover with the model name and brand, as I haven't found yet a professional who can print the logo (the letters are easy for them) on the surface when I will repaint it.
Since it's ready and fit to work, I am enjoying it more and more. It's an awesome tool of creativity and a classic masterpiece of quality and innovation. No matter the age and technology, this fixture has effects (many of them Italian patents) you cannot find in fixtures nowadays.
